1 - Students will be able to learn to identify primary and secondary colors.

2 - Students will be able to explore color mixing using paint in plastic baggies.

3 - Students will be able to name their favorite color and draw a picture representing that color.

2 - Students will be able to explore color by layering colored tissue paper.

3 - Students will be able to color their own iguana.

Lesson focus: Zoo Shapes - Book by Lois Ehlert

 

Objectives:

1 - Students will be able to learn about shapes with the book Zoo Shapes.

2 - Students will be able to correctly name several geometric shapes.

3 - Students will be able to practice cutting geometric shapes. 

4 - Students will be able to create an animal out of geometric shapes.

Imaginary Creatures

 

Big Idea: Imagination

 

Essential Question: How can we create an imaginary animal that exists in an appropriate imaginary environment?

 

Focus Artists: Dr. Seuss, mythology from many cultures, “Inside Out”

 

Technology Use:  Interactive SMART Board presentation.

Objectives: 

1 - Students will be able to find similarities of creatures that allow them to fit appropriately into different environments.

2 - Students will be able to draw their imaginary creature and place it into an appropriate setting.

3 - Students will be able to use color to show emotion

Finding Neverland

Collaboration with the Rochester Broadway Theater League (RBTL).

Project based learning in general classroom, music, and art.

Essential Question: How can we represent our own Neverland using our own personal symbols from our own imaginary place?

1 - Students will be able to design a map of their personal “Neverland.”

2 - Students will be able to use map elements (key, compass rose).

3 - Students will be able to learn about how artists create personal maps. 

4 - Students will be able to experiment with painting techniques to antique their map.

1 - Students will be able to generate a list of the dos and don’ts of creating successful zoetrope strips.

2 - Students will be able to create and successfully animate one 12-frame zoetrope strip

Objectives:

1 - Students will be able to collaborate to design creatures who live in different imaginary worlds.

2 - Students will be able sketch appropriate creatures in the settings provided and give evidence for their choices.

3 - Students will be able to create their own 3D sculpture.
